Exploring the new sailing area

I spent the last couple of days exploring the new sailing area created east of the Nautilus continent with the creation of the sims of the Blake Sea and moving the United Sailing Sim. This is the first time a direct link is being created between a group of private estates and mainland

Exploring the Blake Sea

I used several of my ships in this esploration, that you can see in the pictures

Exploring the Blake Sea

I have mixed feelings about this operation. It is surely a wonderful opportunity for all those who love maritime activities in SL and expecially sailing, and I keep thinking to get at least a docking place in the area. But these same thoughts have also made me think of the great unbalance this operation has brought into SL. It is very clear that the lands aroung the Blake Sea, both the mainland in the larger Nautilus continent, and the private estate of the USS are more equal than the others. There is no match between a seaside parcel in the original mainland or in the Southern Continent and one close to the Blake Sea. And no other estate will ever be able to offer access the same amount of world that the USS have now. I love Beek Haven for instance, and the Sea of Antiquity, and I used to sail a lot in the water of the elven lands. But there is no match honestly. They are still great for roleplaying but they have become very small for fun sailing. This new situation will be (and already is) reflected in the value of the properties and of the commercial spaces located in the different areas.

the Morning Star Sailing from Nautilus to Sailors Cove

Apart from these considerations the area is just great and offers hours of fun and great views.

the Star of Faeria Cruising from Sailors Cove to Nautilus

I invite all those who like sea activities in SL to spend some time there and explore. It is a great experience.

What is Second Life? How to download Second Life? How to sign in Second Life?

I know the majority of readers from this blog known Second Life very well. But I have notice that some readers don’t know this platform or let’s say browser 3D. So I wrote this article for those who don’t know the metaverse, maybe some are your friends. If someone don’t understand what is Second Life invite them to read this article or make a commentary here. I will try to answer as soon as possible. At the end of this post I included some links for you to download Second Life and make your registration at Linden’s Lab (the creator of Second Life) to try this virtual world experience.

But what is Second Life? Second Life is a real life simulator in a virtual world totally 3D. We can also say it is a 3D browser too, analogous to Internet Explorer. Therefore, people can interact with others avatars from other countries. They can also create objects, business and personalize their avatar everything in a 3D ambiance. Residents can travel all around the world and meet people. Second Life is something like the combination of a simulator, web site, Orkut, and MSN all mix in a 3D environment.

What are the minimum requirements for me to run Second Life?
Your computer must meet these minimum requirements, or you may not be able to successfully participate in Second Life.

For Windows:
Internet Connection*: Cable or DSL
Operating System: 2000, XP, or Vista
Computer Processor: 800 MHz Pentium III or Athlon, or better
Computer Memory: 512 MB or more
Screen Resolution: 1024x768 pixels
Graphics Card for XP/2000**:
• NVIDIA GeForce 2, GeForce 4 MX or better
• OR ATI Radeon 8500, 9250 or better
• OR Intel 945 chipset
Graphics Card for Vista (requires latest drivers)**:
• NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better
• OR ATI Radeon 9500 or better
• OR Intel 945 chipset

For Mac:

Internet Connection*: Cable or DSL
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4.11 or better
Computer Processor: 1 GHz G4 or better
Computer Memory: 512 MB or more
Screen Resolution: 1024x768 pixels
Graphics Card**:
• ATI Radeon 9200 and above
• OR ATI Radeon X Series
• OR NVIDIA GeForce 2, GeForce 4
• OR NVIDIA GeForce 5000 Series and above

Is it Second Life the web future platform?

I think Second Life definitely is a new concept platform. Obviously other innovations will make this concept better in the future. Others browsers similar to Second Life are here to prove my question. Other programs such as Smallworlds, Popmundo, Maplestory and Kaneva are analogous to the Second Life concept. Even the powerful Google yield to this idea.

Like I Said I believe this concept is the future of internet. Beyond all possibilities Second Life facilitate people relationship, business and learning. Also SL is a good 3D software. The most impressive thing in SL for me is the possibility to go inside a shop and talk to other customers. This is something very difficult to be seen in a 2D website. There are also unlimited possibilities to create pictures, movies and 3D objects. Actually there are more than 15 million accounts open and Sl economy grow about 35% an year. If you bet Second Life you will do well.

To login Second Life you need to follow these steps:

01- Click the image (Login Second Life) on the blog left column. After that touch “GET STARTED” on your right upper screen at Linden Lab website and fill the application form. When you finish that you will receive the link by e-mail. Next you need to download the Second Life software.
02 - Download here the Second Life software if the other link don’t work.

If you still have doubts click here for Second Life and make the software download

Virtual Africa

Have you ever wished to visit the Serengeti ? Until you can do so you can get very close to the experience visiting Virtual Africa in SL.

Virtual Africa

This is a beautiful region, made of 4 (soon to be 5) sims where the African ecosystem, culture and traditions are on display, realized with great passion and care.

Virtual Africa

I found the place jumping randomly from blogs to tweets and, at last, I saw a LM in a tweet, with an invitation to visit the place. I followed the LM and I found myself in this beautiful natural paradise. I was greeted almost immediately by Alanagh Recreant, one of the souls behind the project and a Capetown resident in RL.

Virtual Africa

Alanagh took me around on a balloon tour where I got a great felling of the place. You just need to immerse yourself a bit on the experience and you really believe to be flying over the savana.

Virtual Africa

There are wild animals areas, beautiful landscapes, camping areas, themed platforms in the sky, rivers to navigate, cultural centers and a market where one can find African outfits.

virtual africa

It was an overall great experience. More tours are available with stations to follow all over the place and I definitely plan to go back there for more exploration.

virtual africa

Oh .. I was forgetting: when you are there set your environment to sunset. The warm colors of the sunset light are perfect to enhance an already gorgeous experience.

Have fun ... and remember to pet a lion :)

Wonderful Brazil - Other Popular festivity

This is mine and GISA Miles one of the recent article for déjà vu magazine. Hope you all enjoy, and if you do, please leave a comment.

By Anna Avalanche and Gisa Miles

The sympathy and contagious joy of the Brazilian people are characteristics present in every corner of the country. The Brazilian natural beauty and diversity of its people are trademarks of traditions that result in celebrations exuberant, full of beliefs, colors, shapes and sounds. Partying runs in the blood of most Brazilians, and their festivals are a good excuse to do it longer and harder!

Brazil is internationally known for Carnival but there are more popular feasts such as the New Year, Parintins festival, Micaretas, June Feasts and Oktoberfest. These enthusiastic celebrations, which combine singing, music and much dance, attract millions of foreign tourists to the country every year. In them, it is almost impossible to remain as a mere spectator – everyone participates, everyone plays along and those who visit, become fans of these wonderful parties. Which is the best festivity in Brazil? Well the ones you visit, of course! In addition to the national popular feasts, Brazil also offers regional celebrations that animated and conquer tourists from all over, like:

New Year's Eve (Reveillon) - throughout Brazil is one of the most majestic and democratic feasts. It is celebrated in many different ways in all regions of Brazil, but nothing can compare with the beauty of festivities on the beach. Fireworks, music concerts and African traditions merge to create the magic of Reveillon. There is homage paid to Iemanja, queen of the sea. People jump waves to attract good fortune in the New Year. They celebrate together, illuminated by a huge fireworks event that decorates the skies of the Marvelous City at midnight.

June Feasts - “Festas Juninas” or June Festivals are traditional celebrations which were brought over to Brazil by Portuguese colonizers. They celebrate St. Anthony, on June 13, St. John, on June 24, and St. Peter, on June 29.

June Festivals developed into a unique kind of celebration with a wealth of regional expressions. The feasts have some typical features: music, costumes, food, decoration, games. A bonfire is always present. Remember that June is one of the coldest months of the year in Brazil. Food is heavily based on corn and other ingredients available on farms; boiled corn, baked corn, popcorn, several candies based on corn, milk and peanuts (pe-de-moleque, canjica, curau, pamonha, cocada, etc). To drink, several juices for kids, and, to help adults warm up, quentão (the name means "very hot"; the drink is prepared with ginger, sugar, and “cachaça” - a Brazilian white rum made from sugar cane).

The June circuit in the Northeast of Brazil is one of the most famous and traditional around the world. Caruaru, in the State of Pernambuco, and Campina Grande, in Paraíba, dispute the title of best feast in the country. The first is known as the “capital of forró”, a popular dance and music, while the other as the “Biggest Saint John in the world”.

Parintins festival - The Amazonian folklore festival

This large folkloric celebration presents myths, tales and legends using characters, parade carts, giant puppets, choreographies, and much music.

It festival mobilizes the Paritins city in Amazonas around the fight between the "Caprichoso" and "Garantido" bulls. The historical rivalry between the two bulls dominates the city, permeates people’s imagination and culminates in one of the most popular parties in Brazil. The Festival held every night on June 28, 29 and 30. In the Bumbódromo Arena, the bulls put on a grandiose spectacle of dance, music, drama and special effects – a true rural opera that drives its 40 thousand daily spectators into a frenzy.

Oktoberfest – in October, the city of Blumenau in the State of Santa Catarina enters into festivities, showing visitors from all over Brazil and the world its rich culture. With music, dance and typical cuisine, the party preserves the customs of German immigrants who settled in the region. The Oktoberfest in Blumenau was inspired by the German namesake festival, which originated in 1810 in Munich when King Luis I, later King of Bavaria, married to Princess Teresa of Saxony. To celebrate the wedding was held a horserace. The success was all that the festival has been held every year with the participation of the people of the region. Based in the Munich Oktoberfest, the version blumenauense was born in 1984 and today is the second largest German festival in the world!

Micaretas – The out of season carnivals. Created in the city of Feira de Santana unpleased with the carnival, which did not take place that year due to heavy rainstorms. It was so successful that it became a national hit. Since the 1990’s, many Micaretas take place in many Brazilian cities, almost throughout the year. This feast is animated by a Trio Elétrico, a truck equipped with a high power sound system and a music group on top of it, playing for the crowd. Some Brazilian artists had been known singing in a Trio as Elba Ramalho, Daniela Mercury, Ivete Sangalo, Carlinhos Brown.

Do you love Carnival? Did you miss Carnival this year?

Don't worry...

Here in Brazil you can have Carnival all year around the Micaretas!!

Accept this invitation and come celebrate life in Brazil !!!

Oxbridge - Beautiful Places inside Second Life by Wildstar Beaumont

Oxbridge was an amazing discovery during my circumnavigation of Winterfell and Caledon sims a few weeks ago.

the "Morning Star" sailing in Southern Caledon

I was sailing along the southern coast of Caledon and I started to see the buildings of this sim I did not remember I had seen before. The style of the beautiful buildings and the name, Oxbridge, left little to be imagined about what was the inspiration: a place of knowledge and learning.

During that first trip I just sailed by the place, but it was impressed in my mind, so I went back, more than once, and every time I was stunned more and more by what was created there both estethically and functionally.

Oxbridge seen from Nova Civis caledon

Oxbridge is basically an orientation sim, intended for newbies to have a smooth introduction to the basic mechanisms of Second Life. In fact the sim is just to the west of Nova Civis Caledon, the Caledon branch of the popular New Citizen Incorporated.

University of Oxbridge

Oxbridge - which looks like it is being completed these days - is organized as an University, with a number of C
olleges to attend sequentially: Avatar Customization, Camera Control, Money and Business, etc. Taking these tutorial the new residents can easily learn about the activity that makes most of the day by day life of an avie

University of Oxbridge

The tutorials look some of the best I have seen so far. Very well conceived and implemented.
There are also a number high quality freebies related to each tutorial, that will be surely very useful to new residents.

the Caledon Library at the Oxbridge University

A local branch of that outstanding institution that is the Caledon Library cannot be missing there, and there is also a residence building, where newly graduated citizens, can have a home for their first weeks.

I do not think I have to mention the beauty of the buildings and of the sim as a whole. I believe the images I am including are more than able to transfer the feeling of this wonderful place.

the spires of Caledon Oxbridge

A fantastic accomplishment that I never get tired to visit.

Sailing in Southern Caledon

I am not sure if I have ever mentioned that I love to sail. I do ! :) I captain a number of ships, and Miss Serra, Seneshelf of my home region of Winterfell has been so nice to appoint me Winterfell Admiral lately :)
One of the thing I love most being a Winterfellan is that Winterfell connects to other regions, Caledon in primis and this give me a huge area to explore and hours of sailing time.

After almost a year of sailing I still have not discovered all the beauty of this wonderful region.

Today I was taking my Morning Star in the Southern Caledon waters and I was stunned as I ended in Caledon Oxfordbridge. Such a beauty in the perfect reproduction of the buildings.

the "Morning Star" sailing in Southern Caledon

And the nearby sims are not to be neglected : Caledon Cymru, where an impressive fortress on the sea dominates the view and the waters between Greystoke and Glarmorgan where one of the most magnificent bridges I have seen in SL dominates the view

A region to visit and explore !

Sternberg

Sternberg, originally uploaded by Wildstar Beaumont.

I like to walk the linden roads on the mainland continents and to discover new places. And among ad farms and abandoned clubs sometimes one can find true jewels of beauty

Yesterday I found Sternsberg: a Swiss/German village spanning two sims in the Southern Continent. It is on the fjords that make their way into the land from the Korean canal, which divide the two arms of the continent and I must say that being on sea always makes a difference.

It is clear that this region has been build with passion and love: there are clubs, shops, tourist office, galleries. A stunning castle that is the replica of a RL German castle dominates the view

The most outstanding feature though is a state of the art public transportation system made of air-taxis, a network of boats taking from one landmark to the other, and a running subway: really awesome.

Definitely worth a visit : http://slurl.com/secondlife/Morkeleb/118/97/60

Winterfell Views

Winterfell Views, originally uploaded by Wildstar Beaumont.

Winterfell is the place where my home is. it is a region of great beauty, spanning many sims, just north of Caledon to which is connected by a Gateway. Winterfell is multi-themed, ranging from dark gothic/medieval in the North, to dark Victorian in the South. The light is set to be from twilight to dawn, never full daylight.
I start today showing the pictures of this beautiful land that I took over the past months

Rocking Pirates

Pirates were the rockers of their times.
With their own laws and code of honour they defied the establishment. Rebels to some, heroes to others, feared or idolized they never left indifferent and their names still make us dream today.

To celebrate these long gone rockers, and following the success of the Kiss tribute, Remember Island is throwing out another tribute, this time to Alice Cooper. It will be this Saturday at 2PM SLT on Remember Island . For a little taste of what you'll see, have a look at a previous concert.

If you prefer the quiet, stroll around and take in the peace of more secluded areas. Two of my favourite spots are on the mountain overlooking the bay where ships lay and above the grotto overlooking the sea.

Underwater

My home region of Winterfell is a region of many wonders and lovely people, and still presents many surprises in the most remote corners. In particular the underwater part of the sims shows a beautiful environment that would make happy both humans and mermaids :)
